Question: My doberman got a sore on the ear (inside area)after re-taping. I guess it's due to loose contact between the tampon and the ears. Should I stop taping until the sore is totally healed?

Answer:  Good question. If the sore is scabbed over (dried) it should be OK, but if it's still wet (bleeding or weeping) hold off on the taping for a few days to let it heal.

I hear stories like this quite a bit when people use tampons. Instead I used a foam 'tube' or 'round strip'. It's called "Caulk Backing" available at most any hardware store, It is cheap, like $6 for 20 feet, that lasted me for almost the entire taping session (4 months) because you only use a few inches at a time.

It's very soft, yet rigid when it's taped into the ear. Because it has no real structure it will bend when the dog sleeps or bumps into it but stands right back up again.

Just use some tape, sticky side out, around the foam tube, then put it in the ear, then a wrap of tape around the outside of the ear to hold it on. Really worked well, and for those of us owners that are guys, it's a trip to the hardware store, not to buy tampons :)
